Happy Thanksgiving Eve! (11/24/10)

Tis the day before Thanksgiving and the weather here is a very clear, very crisp 34 degrees. Simply beautiful! I have finished my second cup of coffee and have my green tea steeping, though I wish I had today off so I could enjoy an Irish coffee instead, I mean how best to start the cheer of winter’s first kiss… oh well, there is always tomorrow morning.

Tonight I plan do all the prep work I can for tomorrows feast, so that the morning will be off to an easier start. I do love the early beginning of Thanksgiving morning; it doesn’t seem to feel like the normal “getting up early” chore of a standard work week. Instead, the house sleeps, enjoying the early start to the weekend. While the oven is on and warming I turn on the parade, making sure the volume allows for only me to hear it and then dive into my own little world of seasoning, stuffing, boiling and baking. Once done I set another pot of coffee to percolating, make my last cup an Irish one, curl up on the sofa under a blanket and wait for the family to slowly wonder into the living area, all sleepy-eyed and happy.

There is so much to our family Thanksgiving that is not a part of the meal itself, that is so wonderful and so what I am truly very thankful for. Its moments like the quite house I just mentioned, the lazy long morning, the casual grazing until the feast, the games, the aromas of things made only once a year and laughter and the closeness of extended and immediate family. Heaven!

I do look forward to this time of year! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend, may it be filled with all you love and cherish. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
