Monday's Thoughts (11/08/10)

It’s Monday, and it is amazing how fast the weekend can fly by. Mitch and I had a wonderfully lazy day yesterday. The rain that was in the forecast for the weekend finally showed-up and we chose to celebrate its arrival by being bums. We spent our lazy day on the couch watching old movies, sipping hot beverages and snuggling the time away. HEAVEN!!!
So, the week promises to be busy, and the weekend full of fun. Janet’s Birthday (my step-daughter) is Friday, and Sunday is the anniversary of our first date (Mitch and I). Normally, and in past years, as part of the birthday celebrations, the birthday person got to pick the restaurant we were to dine at that evening… but due to the recent tightening of budgets, Mitch and I this year have decided to simply cook the menu of the birthday persons choice. Hopefully, that will be well received. I have my fingers crossed. As for our anniversary, I have a lovely candlelit dinner for two planned and a bottle of one of our wine club wines ready. I haven’t decided what too cook yet but figure I can pick it up when I pick up items for Janet’s birthday.
All this planning and hoping gets me thinking of the holidays and what we still have yet to tackle with family and the kids. This year for our immediate families, I will be making our gifts, and have many options set in my mind but realize that time is starting to get away from me. I will need to start planning what shopping will need to be done and how much time I will need for some of the preparation and assembly. I know we are not the only family going through this and do hope those of you choosing to do this are enjoying the planning process, and if you need help with ideas… stay toned as I will include some of the gift options I will be making in tomorrows blog.

Today’s blessing:
Friday evening, my parents were on there way to our house for dinner and phoned about some horrible traffic they were stuck in. It wasn’t until Saturday morning, while reading the newspaper that we learned the reason for the abnormal traffic back-up. That afternoon at a Simi with an empty trailer, all but 30 minutes away from its hub, ran into the back of a station wagon, causing the station wagon to run into a small truck in the oncoming lane. There was a child in the back seat of the station wagon that was raced to a local hospital and tragically, did not survive the accident. The driver of the small truck in the oncoming lane was pronounced dead on arrival. This horrific accident happened on a perfectly clear day and before rush-hour traffic. This horrific accident has devastated at least two families, and has caused a huge, infallible hole in their homes, and tragically just prior to the holidays.

This all happened while I was on my way home. I actually pulled into my driveway at , and all of this was minutes from my home. I was in that pull of vehicles on that road at that time. I probably saw that station wagon and the Simi. It could have just as easily been me that was struck. Today, I am blessed I was not in the accident that cause such horrific losses.

My prayers go out to the families, who survived this horrible and unimaginable loss.
God bless.
